Upper Thumb Habitat for Humanity offers a hand up, not a hand out, to low-income families who seek affordable home ownership. We build simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with our home buyer families and many volunteers. We sell these homes to qualified home buyers and provide a no-interest mortgage. We make no profit from the sale of our homes.
Home ownership is a significant, long-term financial commitment with many rewards and benefits and offers security and stability to families who are financially responsible. Home buyers enter into a legal contract with Upper Thumb Habitat for Humanity to faithfully repay their mortgage and support construction of more Habitat homes in the community.
Upper Thumb Habitat for Humanity accepts applications from January through March each year. This deadline can be extended if no family is selected from applications received. Please visit this web page to find out if the deadline has been extended.
The following three criteria must be met to quality for a Habitat for Humanity home:
- Need for adequate shelter
- Ability to pay for a Habitat home
- Willingness to participate as a partner with Habitat
